Relevancy to organizations

Design, site selection and network carrier considerations

An immense amount of thought went into the initial design of the data center pertaining to the needs of our prospective customers and the applications they were likely to utilize at Data Holdings.

In terms of site selection, the building location is in very close proximity to the fiber paths of most major carriers serving Wisconsin.

The building was designed to become a Carrier Hotel that would become part of the underlying fabric of communications in Southeastern Wisconsin. As a result we incent carriers to build to Data Holdings through a policy of strict Carrier Neutrality and we do not charge carriers monthly space rental fees.

Latency Considerations

Among the site selection criteria was proximity to other cities and the applications likely to be adopted by potential customers of the data center. Round-trip latency figures from multiple carriers from Data Holdings to Chicago have been measured at sub-5 milliseconds. To Madison, that figure is approximately 2.5 milliseconds, and a direct fiber build (removing POPs from the equation) are sub-1 millisecond.

As a result, organizations are able to do real-time mirroring of databases, have active/active environments for latency-sensitive applications such as ERP systems or linked storage.

Industry Applications and Certifications

The designation of LEED Gold certification for Data Holdings is of enormous significance to our business.

It is also of significance to our tenants that are also concerned about efficiency and sustainability as the world as a whole becomes more wasteful. By colocating their data infrastructure at Data Holdings, they are making a statement that the objectives and intentions of the LEED organization matter to them too.

PCI/DSS V3 certification enables Data Holdings to provide services to retail and financial services organizations. PCI applies to ALL organizations or merchants, regardless of size or number of transactions, that accepts, transmits or stores any cardholder data.
